GGP - Projects FY2013-2014
The Project for Rehabilitation of the Municipal Primary School "Braka Miladinovci" (56,116 euros)
About 1,200 children attend the “Braka Miladinovci” elementary school, located at the lake side of Ohrid in Struga, a municipality in the south-west of Macedonia, close to the border with Albania.
The school has never been refurbished since its foundation in 1974. The doors to the classrooms are broken and cannot be shut, and in some cases there are no doors at all to protect the pupils from the noise and chill from the corridors, especially in the winter when temperatures can fall to minus 10 degrees. The toilets are in a heavily deteriorated state and give off an unpleasant smell. Water is leaking from washstands, and tiles on the floor and walls are missing in numerous places. Especially the lack of toilet doors and resulting difficulty to protect their privacy is causing the pupils in puberty considerable emotional discomfort.
The purpose of this project is to grant financial assistance for the refurbishment of doors, windows and toilets for the primary school and its gymnasium so that the pupils can be educated in a beneficial environment.
