    Support for Winterization Plan for Refugee Crisis in Macedonia
    The Government of Japan has decided to allocate 3 billion yen (about 2.7 million US dollars) out of Japan’s 2015 core contribution to the UNHCR for measures to protect refugees in Macedonia and Serbia against the cold weather conditions.
    This decision was made in response to the request for assistance to the Winterization Plan for the Refugee Crisis in Europe issued by UNHCR and the contribution will be used for maintenance measures in refugee reception facilities, including the installation of heating devices, in Macedonia and Serbia.
    Prime Minister Shinzo Abe conveyed this decision about the contribution mentioned above to Antonio Guterres, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, during their meeting in Tokyo on 25th November.

    On the occasion of the celebration in the Macedonian National Theatre in Scopje, Ambassador Taketoshi reiterated his commitment to strengthening the relationship with the country which plays a key roll in the West Balkan region. During his stay in Skopje, Ambassador Taketoshi had meetings with, inter alia, H.E. Mr. Nikola Poposki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Nikola Todorov, Minister of Health.

    Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Nikola Gruevski, Prime Minister of Macedonia, who was on his visit to Tokyo, Japan. They discussed, among other things, about the bilateral relations, Macedonia's efforts to reform in the interests of joining NATO and the EU and Japan's security policy.

    20-year-anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations - Japanese Film Festival 2014 in Skopje
    Ambassador Taketoshi delivered remarks on the 20-year-anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on the occasion of the Japanese Film Festival 2014 in Skopje. "Our bilateral relationship commenced 20 years ago and has been developing steadily. The visit of the Prime Minister of Macedonia to Japan for the first time in 2011 and the completion of the first Japanese official development assistance (ODA) loan project to Macedonia in 2013 are evidences of our deepening bilateral relations in many fields." He looks forward to further fruitful exchanges with Macedonia in the next 20 years.

    Mr. Takao Makino, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan was in Macedonia. He held bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. Nikola Gruevski, Prime Minister of Macedonia, the President of the Assembly, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia, Mr. Zoran Petrov, among others.

    Mr. Makoto Taketoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Macedonia, presented his credentials to H.E. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, President of Macedonia on 29 November 2013. The President and the Ambassador exchanged views on perspectives for Japan-Macedonia relations. The Ambassador delivered best wishes on behalf of H.M. the Emperor of Japan.
    During his stay in Skopje, Ambassador Taketoshi also met H.E. Mr. Nikola Poposki, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

    Ambassador IWATANI completed his mission
    Mr. Shigeo Iwatani, Ambassador of Japan to Kosovo has completed his mission and left for home on Saturday, August 10, 2013. During his tenure as the chief of the diplomatic mission in Vienna, he has been committed to strengthening the bilateral ties between Japan and Macedonia and promoted a wide range of activities from cultural exchanges to development assistance projects. On his last visit in Skopje on July 17, 2013, Ambassador Iwatani paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, President of Macedonia, and expressed his hope that more Japanese people will visit Macedonia, so that people-to-people contacts can be deepened.
