Study in Japan - Notes for Applicants

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS:

For submitting your application, please do read careful paragraph 7. Application Procedure of the "Application Guidelines Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarship for 2015 (Research Students)". You will have to submit all documents required there, except numbers (2) Placement Preference Form (a prescribed form) and (9) Medical certificate on the prescribed form issued by the medical institution. These documents are not necessary for the first application round.

TIMETABLE:

Initial applications to be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science by 13 June 2014 at the latest. Applications arriving after this date will not be considered.

End of June: Selected candidates will receive a letter of invitation to an interview (second week of July 2014) by the Ministry of Education and Science preceded by a language test (Japanese and/or English). At the interview candidates will be selected for recommendation to the Monbukagakusho.

December 2014: Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Monbukagakusho as scholarship candidates.

In January or February 2015: Candidates wil be given notification of their final acceptance once their chosen Japanese university has confirmed with Monbukagakusho that a suitable placement is available.

ESTABLISHING CONTACT WITH A JAPANESE UNIVERSITY

  1. Applicants have to first find a suitable Japanese university for carrying out their study project by the time of the interview in June. It is not necessary to have found a Japanese supervisor until the interview.

  3. If applicants cannot propose a suitable university by the time of the interview in June he/she will not be considered as a candidate.

The final placement will be decided by Monbukagakusho. No objection by the grantee shall be made regarding the university placement.
